Salary: £40,000- £50,000

A great opportunity has become available for an experienced HGV Technician with leadership experience to step into a Shift Chargehand position at a busy commercial vehicle workshop in Burton. You’ll be supporting the day-to-day running of the shift while also remaining hands-on, ensuring all repairs and servicing work meets VOSA and company standards.
Key Responsibilities of a Shift Chargehand
Carry out routine servicing, diagnostics, and repairs on HGVs and trailers to a high standard
Manage and lead the workshop team on your shift to ensure productivity and compliance
Support the Branch Manager with shift organisation and workshop operations
Liaise with the parts department and ensure timely repair processes
Attend roadside breakdowns and support customer needs when required
Ensure all compliance paperwork, job cards and service records are completed accurately
Promote and maintain high standards of health and safety within the workshop
Maintain a clean, organised and professional working environment
Attend ongoing training to keep up to date with vehicle technology and product knowledge
What We’re Looking For
Proven experience as an HGV Technician, ideally with previous Chargehand or supervisory experience
NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent)
IRTEC inspection licence (preferred)
Strong leadership and communication skills
Good knowledge of health and safety practices in a workshop environment
Current UK driving licence (HGV and ADR licences are a bonus)
Confident with diagnostics, problem-solving and decision-making on the job
