QHSE Manager
Location: Trafford Park, Manchester
Salary: Up to £50,000 per annum DOE

We are seeking a hands on Manufacturing QHSE & Technical Compliance Manager, QHSE Manager, or SHEQ Manager to lead quality, health & safety, and technical compliance across a vehicle bodybuilding/manufacturing operation. You’ll own the QMS, embed quality at every stage of build (fabrication, welding, assembly, PDI, final approval), and ensure compliance with Type Approval (IVA, VCA, DVSA) and ISO standards while driving continuous improvement across the shop floor.
Key Responsibilities (QHSE & Technical Compliance Manager / QHSE Manager / Quality Manager)
Own, maintain, and improve the QMS; lead internal audits, manage NCRs, CAPA/8D, SOPs/work instructions, KPIs and audit readiness
Ensure compliance with Type Approval frameworks (IVA, VCA, DVSA); maintain technical files, build records, CoC documentation and change control
Lead HSE compliance: conduct risk assessments, promote safe systems of work; manage COSHH, PUWER, LOLER, permits to work, accident/incident investigations and RCA
Deliver QHSE training, inductions and toolbox talks; strengthen a safety?first culture and competence across teams
Monitor supplier quality and incoming inspection; collaborate with production, engineering, and leadership to resolve issues and standardise best practice
Drive continuous improvement (5S, visual management, lean methods); reduce defects and variability, improve build consistency and on?time approvals
Liaise with regulators, customers, and suppliers to maintain certifications and uphold legal, customer, and engineering requirements
Skills & Qualifications (QHSE Manager / SHEQ Manager / Technical Compliance Manager)
Essential:
Proven background in QHSE/compliance within vehicle bodybuilding, automotive, or engineering manufacturing
Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 (and exposure to ISO 14001 / ISO 45001) and external audit processes
Awareness of Type Approval (IVA, VCA, DVSA) requirements for vehicle builds/conversions
Practical HSE knowledge (COSHH, PUWER, LOLER) and experience leading investigations, RCA, NCRs and CAPA
Confident communicator with the ability to influence production, engineering, H&S and leadership teams
Data?driven, detail?focused and proactive in risk management and compliance improvement
Desirable:
Lead Auditor (ISO 9001, ideally 14001/45001) and NEBOSH/equivalent safety qualification
Engineering qualification (HNC/HND) and experience in fabrication/welding environments
Lean/Six Sigma (Yellow/Green Belt), multi?site experience and full UK driving licence
